In this case it’s magic, just like the palace lighting, but as Lady Philyra said on the last page, in real life people had methods for storing ice year-round before modern refrigerators – dating back thousands of years, even. Links to further info included just because the history of technology is pretty cool, no pun intended.

Feels like him losing that ring is significant.
