Gets stuck in my head all the time.

DeathDragon on January 19, 2016 @ 10:00 AM Reply

Great song! XD

Reth Shannar on January 21, 2016 @ 12:38 AM Reply

I’ve gone and mentally labled it the Death Metal Mosasaur, myself.

DeathDragon on January 19, 2016 @ 10:01 AM Reply

Whelp… They gone.

D on January 19, 2016 @ 10:02 AM Reply

so the beast isn’t just legend :)

Hariman on January 19, 2016 @ 10:04 AM Reply

“Your performance was too short, and you were flat on several notes!”

Also, O_o
I was expecting this, but it’s still a harsh surprise.

Larry M. on January 19, 2016 @ 10:11 AM Reply

And then there were 3…for now.

wwlaos on January 19, 2016 @ 10:54 AM Reply

Ha! Well played.

The Grand User on January 19, 2016 @ 4:23 PM Reply

Looks like turtle-uncle can possibly survive, as long as he’s a good swimmer and the dragon is just interested in the boat

Jeff on January 19, 2016 @ 4:45 PM Reply

Well, a *really* good swimmer, given that the bounty hunters are all weighted down with weapons, metal spaulders and cured leather armor!

Inghelene on January 21, 2016 @ 4:22 PM Reply

Ssssssh- Don’t point it out.
Let me live a day more in happy ignorance. ;A;

Skatie on January 19, 2016 @ 6:01 PM Reply

Oh come on, he can totally pull through that one, it’s only a flesh wound! (It’s the drowning that’ll get him.)

This page has also inspired a conversation here on plate mail and whether or not someone could survive in water wearing it. The Hubs says yes, if the plate was well fitted and light, then it would be possible to swim in it, assuming you weren’t badly injured. You may be able to make it, oh, at least five to ten feet before being eaten alive by the giant Basilosaurus. Yay!

GrimSqueaker on January 20, 2016 @ 5:56 AM Reply

There are some videos on youtube showing people swimming in full Samurai armour. But as far as I understood those, it requires a special swimming technique and lots of training. (We had the same discussion about swimming in armour in my roleplaying group once).

And, well, that was it for handing the boat back afterwards.

Ayrin on January 22, 2016 @ 3:03 AM Reply

In this case, you’ll need to sing whilst swimming in armour too…

On the other hand, they are really close to the harbor, perhaps not so impossible after all?

Ayrin on January 22, 2016 @ 3:05 AM Reply

I take that back, they had actually gotten really far out.

… but our heroes will surely turn back and get them? 8)

OKura94 on April 10, 2016 @ 1:37 AM Reply

Well samurai armor is also rawhide/lacquered wood and cat-gut (I know eww), so it’s not near as heavy as metal/metal-plated leather.

Guest on January 19, 2016 @ 6:01 PM Reply

I’m curious as to why no one in the first boat was playing or singing? Not like they would be immune to it, or?

The Grand User on January 19, 2016 @ 6:13 PM Reply

They were, just the notes aren’t always shown. Go check page 33 for instance.

Guest on January 19, 2016 @ 8:53 PM Reply

Ohhh :D. Lots of notes on page 34. Would make sense, folks used to traveling these waters regularly would just automatically be playing some sort of music or singing.

Eren on January 20, 2016 @ 12:32 AM Reply

Yeah, the lady’s playing a dulcimer/lap guitar thing. It’s just hard to fit music notes into the background of every panel, and I didn’t want it to get too distracting. I might go back and see if I can add the notes in a few more places just to reinforce that it’s going on, though.

WarriorArnelle on January 19, 2016 @ 9:13 PM Reply

I feel kinda bad for the guard who’d bought the ocarina for his niece… Oddly enough, I liked him.

Hariman on January 21, 2016 @ 11:01 AM Reply

Well, the guards aren’t bad people. It’s the leaders who put out the bounty who are the bad people.
I’m actually hoping that the guards survive and get taken back to the town, somehow.

Eren on January 22, 2016 @ 2:15 AM Reply

I liked him, too. :\

Denita TwoDragons on January 21, 2016 @ 2:01 PM Reply

There’s always that one music critic…

That Guy on January 22, 2016 @ 8:46 AM Reply

I wonder have the natives try killing this thing? Even though they have a way to survive getting across the lake, if the city was attacked and they needed to get out wouldn’t this beast be a huge danger to the running parties?

Deoxy on January 22, 2016 @ 10:09 AM Reply

Have they tried killing it?

Well, it’s significantly larger than a great white, seems to be at least somewhat intelligent, and fully aquatic. Have you seen the movie “In the Heart of the Sea” that just came out recently? I haven’t, but I have read the actual history it’s based on, and for humans at this tech level, whaling depended on the whales NOT attacking them back, as that history shows. In the water, we are NOT the dominant species (possibly even today). Trying to kill that thing without heavy duty explosives or some kind of “kill everything in the water for miles around” kind poison would be suicidal.
