Just a note that we’re going to be at Katsucon in the Artists’ Alley on the weekend of the 15th – more on that later. Between convention preparations and getting the book files ready to print, it’s pretty crazy around here…
Pretty sure that if anyone was in servitude, as far as Kip (and perhaps any Morphyx) is concerned it wasn’t her! Aren’t they supposed to be sort of guide/mentor/companions, to ‘help out’ their lesser cousins, though put in a more noble and less arrogantly phrased way?
Kip, when you’re embarrassed, you aren’t meant to then take it out on the next person who helps… (I recognise one of my own bad-behaviours-when-tired-and-off-kilter here, writ large, and winced on her behalf – thought I doubt she’d get that at all). I love her cross little face in panel two, though I want to warn Nashua to move away slowly…
My sympathies still mostly lie with Nashua… at least, my imagination is feeling on his behalf an almost visceral need to get moving away from the city and the picket line and anyone who might be looking for anything that came out of the palace, and into thicker, less farmed woods, and yet he can’t get Kip moving, or lowering her voice, or anything. It must feel baffling, like she just can’t see something the other two can – Ranon was equally earnest that they should move. Whilst his earnestness and tendency to state things plainly in plenty of words as if they are completely obvious probably rubs Kip-like people up entirely the wrong way, he came back, he’s trying to help, he’s trying to reassure her about Varony, and she persists in being not just stroppy but wrong-headed (as he’d see it…), and it must be so tiring to even try and think about it, never mind deal with it.
Mind you, I bet playing the RP out was kind of trustrating too – Kip’s behaviours are deeply annoying and not always explicable but there’s a clear sense of consistency – in Kip-world all her behaviours make sense, it’s not just random ockkardness (not sure if that’s a real word?). It’s very interesting – kudos to all three of the creators!
It was VERY frustrating at times, from an in-character perspective. But I think she’s a fascinating (and very ‘real’) character. It’s been a lot of fun to go back and piece together her motives and motivations and her perspectives on things and try to get at the core of her character so that we can portray her accurately in the reworked comic version.
The last three panels suddenly make sense in light of the next page… she has the info about how to ride that she thinks she needs, Nashua is getting boring, stop listening and go find ‘that idiot’ to see what he’s playing at. Logical! It’s fun working these things out…
Honestly, I don’t think anybody is acting well at this point. Kip is being a pain, but so is Mister Bossy Britches. (Got to love the name-calling Kip keeps coming up with!)
Wow. An entire lifetime of servitude, and any humility that should have been gained from it seems to be nonexistent.
Nashua’s right, Kip is going to get herself in trouble. Well, more trouble than she’s already in.

Either way, Kip’s being incredibly bossy and rude, and she’s also asking for trouble with some of her most recent actions.
Honestly i feel for kip but at the same time she needs to be taken down a peg or two this attitude of hers is really a downer

But then they’ve had a rough day. ;-)
That horse in the fourth pannel looks almost afraid of kip! Haha AS IT SHOULD BE!!!
